For the aware of the mass deletions going on LJ: fandom_counts join this. & I encourage my flist members with +sponsered accounts to make them basic. Cos this is fucking lame ass shit.
No, what bothers me is that comms for the book Lolita was deleted. Also comms for survivors of rape were deleted because of the listed interests. They aren't looking at journals, you're right. But how is a rape survivor going to find a community for other survivors without having some of those interests listed? THAT'S what bothers me the most.
And it's probably that comms like that will be reinstated after LJ is able to take a look at it. Unfortunately, with big companies, it's hit first, ask questions later. Which might not be fair, but thanks to the actions of a moron vigilante group, they were losing advertising revenue, because google was pulling their ads
( ... )
Of course it's been blown way out of proportion, but I still think that it's not right. LJ is being pressured by a group that while it claims that it looking out for the benefit of underage kids, it's website apparently first claims that they had NOTHING to do with this and then in a later post saying that yes. They're being very unprofessional about this, and that bothers me all things considered.
People have put up disclaimers warning that offensive content lies within to prevent people from looking at their fanfiction. Besides, don't most websites that one can sign up with these days ask if the person is of age to join? I dunno, I think that while there are good intentions here, everything is being done is the worst possible manner. :|
Just so you know, a lot of journals were undeleted, and no rape-support groups or whatever were deleted; it seems like it's mostly just shota/childporn fandomish groups that were deleted, which is understandable--it's a violation of the TOS. http://catrinella.livejournal.com/151812.html?style=mine
