I'm not sure how many of you know this, but I LOVE beer. Over the past few years I've turned myself in to a bit of a connoisseur and snob ( Read more... )

I'm commissioning you on a voyage to bring me back a few dozen cases of those.

I wish I could bring them back, but I think that's more than customs allows me to bring, especially considering they have a higher alcohol content than most US beers.
Also, more incentive for you to come visit me in my new home!
The Island Lager turns out to be a pretty run of the mill brew, it's good but nothing noteworthy. The honey one is also a bit mundane. I would recommend either to a more novice beer drinker, but it takes a bit more kick to interest these jaded taste buds : )

You find that your bananas are still fresh and good after refrigerating them?

I want to recommend that you try the Longboard Lager at Cactus Club. I think it is my favourite tap treat in the city but of course I have not tried everything and I'm also fairly stuck on lagers in general.

The Granville Island Lager is very similar if you can find it on tap somewhere (I think GIB actually brews the Cactus in-house stuff if I recall correctly). There's also Okanagan Springs 1516 which tastes great on tap and horrible in a bottle, for some reason. Noticing a trend here.

For something else Canadian (though not local) I'd recommend Steam Whistle Pislner which I've seen for sale around at a few places.

Phillips Brewery also has some nice beers. I liked their Phoenix Gold Lager and the Slipstream Cream Ale which features graphics of dudes racing bicycles on the box which is good enough reason alone to warrant a purchase.

OK, this concludes my local domestic beer lesson for today. Welcome to Vancouver. And... yay beer.

Phillips is next on my list, I am especially attracted to packages with people riding bicycles on them! Thanks for the suggestions, I'm pretty excited about my adventures in Canadian beer however expensive they may be!
