well, I totally agree with you, just trying to figure out how it will affect a particular company and how it should be moving forward.
Just to eleborate on your last point of seach engines and information, thats actually a very scary part. Targetting will become huge, every idividual (ip address) will be defined and characterized in categories and then bombarded with "relevent" ads. Honestly, my thoughts about this are not exactly positive and I am not a big advocate of advertizing, although i am working in this field at the moment.
Regarding video - 100%! it will take over static ads, movies, tv series are already moving online.

Podcasts, webcasts, user generated content, communities, blogs -- its all growing in the future.
Dont know much about your private/semiprivate communities, but there is always VIP crowd in any society.

more independent media sources (blogs; indymedia.com) providing news and doing it faster competing vs traditional one, more truth (maybe :) from the traditionals due to competition.

more strict online media advertisement performance tracking, since the volume of money in advertising increases, more consolidation between online media conglomerates

larger/deeper propagation of online access, leading to more extensive development (more investments, richer content) of the media for cell phone, PDAs, TV.

more interactivity.

Larger penetration of online gaming => increased rehabs and counseling for computer/online gaming addictions.

i could take a look at a some recent magazines on media and advertising at home, let me know if that would be helpful.

Not sure if anyone said anything yet but, identity will have a different concept in the future. No "IP" addresses or other technically obscure non-sense. You will log into your PC with your fingerprint, which will access a database full of all of your information - medical, financial, educational, professional, etc. You then carry this identity around with you as you go anywhere - and in particular places, you choose to show some piece of your data to a particular site/server.
Things like internet favorites, "My Documents" and every other "My anything" will get automatically integrated to become an Online version of YOU. And that YOU is what will participate in all this greater interactivity people mentioned above so extensively.
