[ it had become a regular routine for Riku to spend his time after classes practicing.

practicing what? well, it depended on what he felt sorely lacking in that day. sometimes he would download packets upon packets of extra calculus questions to make sure his skills were sharp, sometimes he called Nise out to practice bowling while Nise practiced hitting. cricket was always the easiest thing for both of them. football was, of course, one of the hardest, for Riku. he breathed hard as he practiced keeping the ball nearby, swerving, technical skills that had his eyes glazing over.

they didn't need actual thought, so this was mindless, bitter work. he paused as he made it back to the middle of the field, standing still, breathing in and out slowly. ]

[Thankfully, the field wasn't that hard to find. He walked over to the bleachers, trying to find a spot to look from that wasn't too obvious - if Riku was there, he didn't want to get spotted.

When he found a place to sit (next to the bleachers; on them seemed like a bad idea) and take a good look, he was able to spot him easily. Yeah, that was definitely Riku.

Sora smiled, and just watched. He was just fine with waiting until his friend was done.]

[ Riku caught his breath and resumed practicing, his legs sore and his lungs aching, but determined. even when he took a fall, because he got back up. this was no doubt a common sight for Sora; Riku tended to practice with him back home and the ease of playing football carelessly had not yet returned to him. honestly, him being able to run like this was an improvement. after several minutes, however, he just stopped and let himself collapse onto his back, staring up at the sky with his football atop his chest. ]

That's enough for an afternoon.

[Even though Sora knew that Riku was smart enough not to overwork himself, he still found himself worrying just a little bit as he watched. If Riku wasn't careful...

But Sora trusted him - Riku knew his limits, right? And, besides, it was good to see that he was improving.

Though he couldn't hear Riku's words clearly, Sora did hear him speak, and perked up. He waited a few seconds. If he had been planning on getting back up, Sora realized, he would've done it already. Now was as good a time as any.

Sora stood and, as quietly as possible, walked out into the field, and didn't stop until he was right beside his best friend.]

You were doing really good out there, Riku!

[Look at him - standing there, smiling, just as casual as he can be. He's not about to burst with excitement after not seeing you for months. Really.]
