Lightning might have finished her morning run, but Fang was on hers. A little later than normal this morning, but hey, she wasn't the one who decided the ferry schedule. Better to be on the island than stranded off of it, right?

Didn't matter too much in the first place, since classes weren't in session - she could go by her own schedule until her trip departed. So when she spotted the unusual sight of someone walking along burdened like that, she had no problem slowing down. Bad for the heart to stop suddenly, so she settled more into a brisk walk in order to catch up with the stranger. In turn allowing her to catch that meow from the cage. She grinned, heart rate slowing and breathing easier as she approached.

"Who's your friend?" Her accent gave her away as always. She's dressed for the run, shorts and a tank top, with a bottle of water riding right behind her hip. As a mostly former athlete, she knew what she was doing. But maybe not what she was about to get herself into.

The question hadn't surprised her, knowing that someone was just coming around due to their footsteps, but Lightning silently cursed her own luck rather than fault things on her cat. She was probably hungry, come to think of it. Her eyes turned to the person who arrived and almost... blinked. If it wasn't the accent, it was the look. Still, Lightning wasn't one to judge based on either of those traits.

There was always more to people, of course.

Well, since the woman was in the vicinity, that meant she was part of the faculty staff. A colleague. Who looked to be the athletic sort. Also a perk. Still, Lightning continued to walk, briefly glancing at the building as they approached.

"My cat," Lightning replied in an almost robotic, automatic way. As if in response, said cat meowed again, hearing the unfamiliar voice conversing with her owner.

Fang was not so easily deterred by either the continued walking or the tone. Just the opposite as she fell in next to Lightning, easily matching her pace. "You're new around here, ain't ya?" she asked, though she already knew the answer. Considering her long time at Reims - as a student if not a teacher - she knew most of the staff by sight. And so she continued on without giving Lightning much of a chance to respond, "Why don't you give me one of those? Free up a hand for your cat; can't be comfortable jostling around like that."

She put out her hand for easy handing off of one of the bags, obviously expecting Lightning to go along with it. After all, any reasonable person would share the load. It just wasn't a practical way to travel.

Lightning's response? She merely took one look at that hand, then promptly shook her head. And hell, she was making sure she wasn't moving around too much to bother her pet. The implication that she was slightly nicked her in a way.

"Thanks, but we're fine." Another clipped answer. She can already tell, though, that Fang was the sort to not just drop things so easily. And- then she remembered how Serah once lectured her that not all people were out there trying to make a living of pissing her off or anything. And besides, she was new, yeah, so she should at least get on better footing with others, right?

... Right. Lightning still was not giving up a bag, though.
