[This particular voice on the intranets today is childish, curious, and BRAND NEW...yet familiar, at least to a small handful of people.]

--this a microphone?

[Tap. Tap tap tap. Then the voice again.]

Oh, is it recording what I say now? I should say something. Hello! My name is Flandre Scarlet, and--now what should I say?

[ Oh gosh, why does it have to be half in French. She replies in kind, hesitantly, and with an awful accent. It'll probably offend her delicate native-speaking ears. ] {Yes, that's the--!}

[ Crap. What's the word? ]

[ And, lacking a pause for the shift, either (and mostly because it's easier to say her name this way), she switches back to English. ] My name is Meiling. And yes, that's a microphone. Can you hear me, too? [ Maybe the young-sounding girl's machine was on the fritz? ]

I didn't mean to confuse you!

I'm Meiling by the way. You said your name was Flandre, right? I think that's a very pretty name! [ Not to mention unique. Hrm.... ]

[Flandre recovers quickly! She even giggles a bit (though happily) in response to Meiling.]

I am! Like Flanders, in Belgium, but French!

[...granted, there is a bit more to it than that, but. Flandre is either largely oblivious or failing at memory today; it's hard to tell which.]

[ She giggles. ] Is that where it comes from? [ She doesn't know. ] Now that I think about it, Scarlet is a unique last name, too. I can't think of anyone I know here at the school with one like it, just one of my family's big accounts...

Scarlet is my family name! [Flandre doesn't know much about the rest, though.] They're in France and French too! Except father because he goes to Japan a lot.

Oh, me too! I mean, I haven't been to Japan in years, but I used to stay there a lot when I was younger. That's a fun coincidence. Have you ever visited, yourself? [ And, switching languages a moment, hopeful. ] {Do you speak any Japanese?}

Was it nice there?

[Sadly, all that earns is a headtilt. That Meiling can't even see.]

...what did you say, just now?

I didn't get to do much sightseeing, but what I did see was very nice! [ She was kind of busy with school and other training. ]

Hm? Oh, I guess you don't.
