Avatar - The Peaceful Ones

Nov 19, 2006 00:25

This began just as a comparison of Iroh and Azula, but then the royal family issues came. So the first section is different from the rest, but I'm going to write the political-analysis-of-Avatarverse-cleverly-disguised-as-fic later, when I'm not redoing these personal statments for the ninety-billionth time. This is more like wading in the waters ( Read more... )

I liiiike the idea that Ozai is less with the loving of Azula and more with the lowering of Zuko, and that he can't actually match her genius and it probably scares the shit out of him. >D

Mmm intrigues. ♥

Ozai's probably going to whip out a lightning technique in the Final Battle just to spite me, but until I see do it, I'm going to assume that Azula has outclassed her daddy at the tender age of fourteen. Which would maybe be okay if only she weren't a sociopath.

Heh, you know what I really wonder? Why no one questions Ozai's parentage of Azula instead of Zuko. The theory of Zuko being Iroh's son is all based on his personality, which we know could easily be the result of his mother; and meanwhile Iroh and Azula are the only ones running around with cold fire. (Realistically the whole thing's moot, but that's the fun of fiction.) Plus, that would really put Ozai on the rack. *smirk*

You know it's odd, but it makes me feel a bit sorry of Ozai. He was kind of stuck in a bad situation. He's a royalty in a court that seems primarily driven by ambition (moreso than the others and even the North Pole and Ba Sing Se weren't that great), caught between a cold, genius father and a psychopathic, genius daughter, he's the younger, less accomplished, less popular brother to the Dragon of the West, finally he's got a trophy wife who seems far more interested in the wellfare of their son than him. I'd be rather paranoid in his situation too.

Actually, in a way, his situation kind of reminds me of Zuko, except I don't think Iroh was around to stick up for Ozai.

I wonder if he thought Zuko might be safer running around chasing after a non-existant Avatar. At least he'd be away from most of the pressures that Ozai grew up with.

Heh! That wasn't my intention, but cool. *grin* Though I agree with your view of it all, from the court down to the wife (I'm not sure about Azulon being cold, unless you meant cold specifically to Ozai--he was a hard man, but he seemed very fond of Iroh in a restrained way); I think I just interpret him as being so ambitious himself that I figure he thrived pretty well in the area. The paranoia certainly was deserved, though ( ... )

I had an awesome, eloquent, _long_ comment ready...and livejournal ATE it! *cries*

*cries more (my brain iz DED!)*

...*le sigh* Oh, well, another time. I will leave you some great feedback one of these days. Tonight's just not my night it seems. *>.<*

Before I go, I must say that I do agree with a lot of the commentary. "Avatar", in general, is very interesting and layered; the plots and characeters have such depth and potential. The Fire Nation Royal Family has interested me, in one way or another, since the very beginning. While I wonder a lot about him, I don't particularly like Ozai; then again, I don't believe I'm supposed to. I don't much care for Azula either, sociopathic bi-a-tch that she is. However, I must agree that I want Azula to stage a coup so bad. I don't know if I want her to actually get away with it [Ozai's pretty much a bastard-son-of-a-bitch and if he were to die I wouldn't feel badly for _him_, though Zuko's another matter], but I'd like to see one anyway.

Vale!

The way I imagine, she could stage the coup and then Aang and Zuko and everyone could fight her in the final battle rather than Ozai--we've got far more of a sense of her character than we do for him, anyway, so it'd be more interesting at the least. (I really wasn't so interested in the Fire royal family until around Zuko Alone, but after that and with how nifty Azula's been getting, my fascination has grown. *grin*)

Heh, it's cool--knowing you read it and liked it makes me happy.

Given the age issues, it was probably two different guys? Though, yeah, wrath o' khan descended on that poor second guy. Trees are so much trouble.

Heeee, thank you! I'm warming to her after the whole infiltration thing, I really am. *grin*

Poor, poor Sokka. He's seriously going to develop a phobia about kissing girls lest he cause their deaths.

I tried sending it on both sendspace and megaupload, but apparently it's corrupt or something. I'm going to try to get a copy from elvey to send to you, but when I even tried to run it, it froze my computer up. ;_; Sorry!
