new year's eve with the ravenclaws

Dec 30, 2013 13:42

Reid loved New Year's Eve. The countdown, the silly party accessories, the excuse to get completely smashed and kiss random strangers at midnight, all for the sake of waking up to a supposed fresh start the next day. While he never really needed much of an excuse to go out, it was always nice to have a reason for getting all his girls together to ( Read more... )

It hadn't been as late in the night as Skylar thought it would be and she wasn't ready to go home yet. She was a wreck and she didn't want to go home to an empty flat. There was only one place she needed to be and that was with Reid ( ... )

Skylar followed Reid's gaze and found the rest of their little group. Her heart jumped a little, feeling to grateful to have them there. It was like seeing your family after a long vacation.

"Did I miss the memo on the one shoulder thing?" she asked, one eyebrow rising, "Because I went with the pure slutty thing-"

Reid waved a dismissive hand, reaching for the fresh shot being passed along to them across the bar. "One-shoulder is obviously Jemma's version of less-than-classy," he argued, not quite throwing the S-word back at her - it was one thing for Skylar to joke about it, but, surrounded by women as he'd always been, that was one of a few words he woud still never dare to say out loud, in jest or otherwise.

"Like I said, you look fabulous. All of you. As always," he dramatically sighed, as if being surrounding was gorgeous, flawlessly dressed women was a burden he had disagreeably found himself carrying.

Skylar rolled her eyes playfully, knowing Reid's unique and safe terminology for the girls in their group. It was sweet, really, but she much preferred when he was blunt.

"Yeah, but I look the best right?" she probed, shooting him a 'please stroke my ego but also be honest with me' kind of look.

Before he could answer, she took the second shot.

"Obviously," Reid replied, perfectly straight-faced and genuine. As much as he might adore the rest of them (and really, he ran with a pretty damn attractive crowd), Skylar was and had always been his number one and favorite. It didn't hurt that she was ridiculously gorgeous even when she was hungover, makeup-less, and dressed down. Looking like this - well, no one stood a chance.

He scrambled to catch up to her hurried second shot, skipping the salt entirely.

The shot hit Skylar, a burst of fuzzy warmth washing over her and she smiled. This was the feeling that she had been waiting for - that beautiful in-between as you stepped away from your sober self and into the place that things didn't have to make sense to be good.

It also helped that she had downed a few vodka sodas at Lavender's party.

"Reid," she sang, wrapping her arm around his waste. "Why can't we just get married. I promise to be good to you. I swear off other men."

Reid wrapped his own arms around her, leaning in to pop a kiss against her cheek. "Let's do it. Right now. By the powers invested in me by...tequilla and lime, I declare us wed."

He paused thoughtfully, grabbing both of their next shots and handing her his. "-Can't promise I'll be swearing off other men, though."

Skylar pouted playfully, though it quickly pulled up into a goofy smile. Reid knew exactly what to say to bring her spirits back up. Of course, the shots helped.

"Only the really good looking ones, okay?" she countered, clinking her glass against his before shooting it back.

"Please," Reid raised a snarky eyebrow at her, playfully nudging a hip against hers. "As if I'd even allow for anything else. I have standards, believe it or not."

"Are these standards new or have you just recently taken off your beer goggles?" she teased, scrunching her face up at him playfully.

"Oy!" Reid poked at her side, a look of indignation passing across his face for a moment before his features settled into sheepishly reluctant acceptance. "...Alright, fine, so my standards are on a bit of a floating scale. Not my fault you're not always around to talk some sense into me."

"Yeah, well, that seems to have changed," she told him firmly, not quite as sad as before but definitely somber.

Skylar shook it off quickly, turning back to the bartender who was pouring out a few more shots. It was exactly what she needed.

Reid poked at her again, his eyebrows knitting together at the solemn turn her tone took.

"Hey, none of that!" He shoved a shot into her hand and took one for himself. "There'll be no grumpiness here this evening. We're going to find you someone super fit to kiss at midnight, and also a lot more of these, and you'll be brilliant and gorgeous and to hell with the rest of it, yeah?"

The only person Skylar really wanted to kiss was Harry. The realization that she wouldn't be doing any of that with him again dawned on her.

"I really need a gorgeous man to make me forget all about him," she pouted, her head tipping back as she groaned.

"It's a shame that this outfit won't be put to good use."

"Oh, so I'm not gorgeous enough of a man, am I?" he teased, pulling a jokingly indignant face. Anything to make her laugh, at this point-

"Anyway, the night is still young, darling," he insisted, pressing another kiss to her cheek. "That outfit'll still get plenty of use."

"Oh, love, if only you appreciated it in the way I wanted you to," she sighed, leaning in to kiss the corner of his lips.

It was times like this that Skylar truly wished that Reid was interested in her in that sort of way. It would be easier, less complicated and they would be happy - she was sure of that.

Sadly, though, she knew that was just a silly fantasy (drunken wishful thinking) that would never come to be. Instead, she just had to set her sights elsewhere.
