A little rant.

I dislike it when people (in this case, FOXNews) assumes that all protestors are anarchists, that all anarchists want to burn corporate World down to the ground, and that they get away with it. Not all anarchists are the kind that blow shit up. Not all protestors are anarchists. Not all students are protestors ( Read more... )

Very nice ranting. You're going to get me started with the cynicism, you know.

Most people are unaware of the unjust treatment of women, minorities, and dissenteres in the islamic world (especially north and east africa). Millions of people will tune in to watch american idol or the super bowl, or try to keep up with which celebrity fucked which celebrity, but nobody cares about what's really going on in the world. I doubt the majority of people in this country could pick out Denmark, Indonesia,Iran, and Saudi Arabia on a map.

Oh, I know. I'm pretty cynical, but days like this, when I'm tired and headache-y and bitchy, damn. I can really get going. It's just really, really discouraging. I come from a pretty well-informed family, went through various schools with well-informed people, and now, it's just like... *crickets* when I ask what other people think about stuff. And on one hand, yay for increasing awareness, but on the other, I'd like to be able to bitch about all of this with people instead of teach them about it. Y'know?

Word.
It's like all these talks about freedom of speech, yada yada, shit like that are just for the sake of it. Also, I hate it when students are stereotyped.

Wow, I never knew about that Saudi woman story. It's a living proof of how barbaric and uncivilized the human race can be even though we've progressed into the 21st century.

Rant all you want. Hell, keep it coming. *g*

It's not so much barbarism as it is Sharia. Sharia's barbaric because it isn't at all compatible with Western civilisation and our concepts of human rights and freedoms. To those living under it willingly, it's a way of life prescribed by Islam. I don't know what the woman who's been sentenced thinks about her sentence, I just know what I think about it and what an admittedly liberal feeling about the Western understanding of rape thinks about it.

I get what you're trying to say, but even if it's not barbaric, it's somewhat extreme, no?

I mean, using sense and logic which I'm sure every human being has, it's just doesn't seem right.

Again, extreme and nonsensical according to our perspective. (But yes. I agree.)
