Fuel for Life

Here's a lunch time gripe...

The gas pump on my way to work read US$2.78 per gallon of gas today.
I bought 1 gallon of regular whole milk for US$2.35 yesterday.

It now costs more to buy a gallon of gas than milk.

Yikes.

Ouch?! Don't know how much a gallon is, but I can tell you that in Athens (and that's cheaper than most other places in Greece regarding fuel), 1 litre gas is already close and in some cases over 1 Euro (about 1,23 USD)

1 gallon = 3.79 litres.

Oh dear... it's even worse in Europe.
1 gallon of gas in Athens comes up to US$4.66 (!)

I know I sound like a farmer with my milk numbers, but how much is a liter of milk in Athens?

(In case you're thinking of the Big Mac Index - well my neighborhood MacDonalds is running a 2 BigMacs for US$3 offer.)

Hmm, let's see. I have no idea how much McDonalds are selling milk here. I drink extended shelf-life and 1 lt of that is definitely more expensive than gas. Always has been, really. Milk is quite expensive in Greece because we don't have too much of it

And I thought California had a high cost of living.
Thanks indeed for the international perspective!
