i remember going to this restaurant my parents used to go to when they were in college, with them, when i was like 5... there were all these flying ants... the owner told us they were closed because every two years the ants swarm to mate inside their restaurant... i thought that was the funniest thing ever... i made up a song

I don't know what you are doing at work, but after too long (even with caffeine) you can't do your job too terribly well. Being tired is a lot like being drunk, except without the fun. 'They' probably are aware of that.
Every year or so there's another grip who wraps himself and his car about a tree somewhere in LA after one of those heroic 20+ hour shifts.
Whenever I work a day that long (25 hours is my record actually) and don't have to get right back the next day I take a long hot bath to spike my body temperature. When you get out, your body temperature starts falling fast, prompting your body to sleep. Try it next time you are still over-caffeinated after work.
