You know, when I was first reading this I thought what I'd put in my comment was what an intriguing story it was (Demon!Dean following the boys out of the dream world, and becoming a harrassing presence for Dean), but by the end I was just feeling so sorry for poor Dean. What a burden, to not only know you were going to hell, but to have to put up with a thing that purports to be your future (evil) self during your last months on earth?

You're very right about it being a burden and honestly, too much for anyone to handle but it's always fascinated me that Dean is the type of character to be given these insurmountable tasks and plunder on, despite his death wish and his cavalier attitude about his own self worth as a person in the grand scheme of things.

I am also a horrible person who loves to see my favorite characters broken but good. But! I think rising out of the horror is a chance for redemption sometimes, a way to eke out a manner of surviving despite everything saying that there's no way, Dean Winchester would find a way.
