kateheightmeyer requested tutorials for both of these icons, and since I had nothing on my plate today except for trying and failing to make battle icons, I thought why not! So tutorials for the following two icons:

First of all, thank you so much for writing (I love to read tutorials) and put the resources in the post too!

I streamlined it all a bit, tbh. And, luckily, I still had all the psds for both of these icons which helped immensely. It always takes three times as long if I have to figure out how to recreate stuff.

These are incredibly inspiring and full of PURE WIN. Thank so much for showing your process to get such incredible colorings, as well as all those brush use tips - I really need to play with brushes more, I have a lot of them saved and they're gorgeous but everytime I try to use them the results are really messy. Also I might be a little dumb and/or blind but I never even realized you can rotate brushes, lol. So thanks for mentioning that as well, now it's definitely easier to find a brush to match a specific spot on the icon :)

Haha, the brush settings sort of hide a little bit. But once you go looking there are like...three different ways at least to get the settings to come up: go to window and toggle 'brush' on, click this button, or go find this button! All of those bring up the menu you can see in the last image which give you SO MANY MORE brush options; it's nuts! But yeah being able to change the angle ups your brush game so much. So great!
