In my studies, W.F. Hegel has been extremely influential and in his theories, the concept of the Other is key.  For Hegel, the Self develops by conflicting with the Other, a being that could be considered to be the Self's mirror image.  By reflecting the Other, one begins to transcend into Consciousness.

That's pretty neat... it does sound pretty philosophical.

I chose mine 'cause I liked the song, plus I'm proud to be a Vermonter... it is a strong part of my identity. Brian tried to call me a New Yorker once 'cause I was gonna move with him to NYC this summer (plans fell through anyway though). As a Vermonter, I found this near insulting!
