Revenge of the State

Mar 25, 2009 21:53

Some of you may remember last year, when I attempted to get New York State to pay me 44 cents in overpaid taxes. Well, they did not pay me my 44 cents.

This year, they claim their revenge of sorts; I owe them seven dollars.

I'll get you next time, Gadget. Next time.

Are you going to pay the seven dollars less the 44 cents? :)

That's what I was gonna say! I totally think he should send them a note,
along with his payment, explaining that he deducted the 44 cents they
owed him. I would!

I was lazy and did my taxes in whole dollars this year. If I did that they'd probably work out that I owed them something like $7.46 this year and make me pay more. :(

If I thought the state had enough of a sense of humor not to have me penalized for it, I'd give it a shot!

That would imply that they think the money is "yours".

That's not the way Government works. It assumes the money belongs to the state and allows you to have some of it on sufferance.

Seriously though, if the taxman owes you anything, you'll never get it back in the current climate :)

Actually, I got my federal tax refund pretty quickly. A very tidy sum, I might add - over $900. :)

Bastards at the state can wait until 4/15 to get paid.
