AMP 2011: Day 35
So, it's still Mother's Day for the next two hours or so, and in honor of the wonderful women who've put so much time and effort into shaping us and making us who we are, I'd like to post a podfic about some very strong, wonderful women. Themes, I has them!
Specifically, it's the strong, wonderful women of Stargate: SG-1.
Softly Through The Seasons, written by
fignewton, covers the ten years of Stargate (from the original movie to the season nine finale) in a series of 100-word drabbles. Each drabble focuses on a female character from the show - some more well-remembered than others - and gets us inside her head, to better explore how she impacted that 'verse. There's Linnea, Destroyer of Worlds, alongside Reese, Mother of the Replicators, as well as Cassandra, Interplanetary Orphan, and Sarah Gardener, Host to Osiris. And
fignewton manages to make each one of these women, no matter how minor or distasteful or major or beloved her role on Stargate: SG-1, someone you wish you'd seen more of. I was particularly impressed with how so much storytelling was condensed into such a brief format - exactly 100 words each, and TEN WHOLE YEARS IN 1000 WORDS. It's an excellent view of the series, as seen through the eyes of those female characters. Nota Bene: This podfic does rely somewhat on the listener having background knowledge of Stargate: SG-1 canon, and does contain spoilers for basically the entire series. So, keep that in mind when you go to
download the mp3.
