One bear is too many bears for me. I wouldn't go outside at all.

Meh. It's a just a black bear and not a mama bear at that. It wouldn't keep me inside unless it were demonstrating signs of stress or sickness. But, admittedly, I wasn't ready to confront it at 3am without a plan. My fabulous plan was... tell the dog she was a good girl and go back to bed.
