So I have been working my ass off to get my work done after having missed Monday and Tuesday last week. I'm still a bit behind in some classes, didn't turn in my math homework, but am hopefully going to do that this week (along with the current assignment). Goodness. I wont bother explaining the difficulty I'm having with my physics lab - it ( Read more... )

Write about how $20 magically appears in my pocket when I check my spring/winter jacket in the change of seasons :)

I'm not really sure what the definition of phenomena would be. How about how Cuba's people are essentially fueled by tourism from capitalist countries?

As a side note, have you read Freakonomics?

I think I could write a paper on either of these topics. The problem is coming up with a 'question' I'd like answered by looking at a phenomena. I also can't figure out what exactly the definition is. That little blurb is pretty much all we were given.

I have not read freakonomics. Is it good?

Oh yeah, thanks for the suggestions. :)

Yeah, I can't really think of anything more intriguing than, "What fuels Cuba's economy?" and so on.

I understood Freakonomics to be a lot more than it was. I read the first couple chapters and thought the whole idea of NYC's crime rate going down because of abortions being legal was interesting, but I expected a whole bunch of other similar non-connected things being connected and that was basically it, so I stopped. Every time I hear that book referenced it's because of that idea.

You're welcome.

not sure if i can be of much help...since i've got my own "vague" topics to figure out.

but relative to the present time, how about war and its effect on the economy?

the notions of tourism and economy is a great one (as default pointed out).

or westernization of other cultures...

how about school economics? especially at reed? the "dividing line" (or lack there of) of the 'privilaged' kids and the not-so 'privilaged' kids.

oooh, the walmart effect! that's a controversial one...

I was actually looking at war and its effect on economy, but I don't know what 'question' I would answer. I'm supposed to look at some phenomena and 'pose a question about it that I think is interesting and then try to answer it'... but I can't think of a question. I could easily write a research paper, but what about the question?! Gah.

Thanks for the suggestions mate, maybe I'll come up with something from one of 'em.

What vague stuff are you looking at? Oh yeah, psychology. :-p

bah! i wish it were psychology that i was having trouble with. i usually don't have many issues coming up w/ topics for that.
it's my music in schools and youth subcultures class that i'm having "trouble" with.

anyhow - question: "how does war affect america's economy?"
or "is haliburton really looking after america's best interests?" ;)

ta, matey.
