another natural "cure"

Recently, I have been having a lot of problems with my face/skin. I have always had dry skin, but it's been worse recently, even after exfoliating and no matter how much or what kind of lotion I used. I also had isolated breakouts and my skin was red and blotchy in places. I looked up natural facial scrubs online and I came up with a great one ( Read more... )

eeep. be careful using salt scrubs on your face... they tend to make teeny little tears in your skin and do more damage long term than good. be super gentle, or use something with a bit less oomph. if you really wanna do the diy route, go to the baking isle & get bakers sugar (not confectioners)... it's a finer grain of sugar that is a bit more suited for skin... plus the sugar creates glycolic acid, which helps the process along. table sugar or even raw sugar will work for body scrubs.

also, with the sugar scrub, its good to leave it on for a few to let the glycolic do it's thing

yeah, i was a little worried about that when it told me to use sea salt, as the grains are rough. that's why i used half table salt, which has smaller, finer grains. and i scrub really gently. i wanted something i could make with stuff i already had (since i am broke), but when i have more spending money, i'll get that sugar you recommended. thanks for the tip, lovey :)

also, for problem skin, you may want to go with oils like lavender, tea tree, rosemary, and chamomile. all good for soothing and treatingskin issues. i have also read really good things about jojoba oil as a cleanser... i think you just massage it in & towel off with a warm washcloth.

i love using olive & castor oils on my skin. it's great for removing makeup and deep cleaning the pores. i just rub it on, massage it in, then 'steam' it off with a hot washcloth. but this scrub you made would be great for my skin before fake-baking ;)
