I took the opportunity in my ill state this morning to mither and bother O2 about my upgrade and current tarrif. Having researched Orange, I could have the phone I wanted and a fixed monthly tarrif. I rang O2 to tell them this and they have given me the following ( Read more... )

Will you keep your number when you upgrade/change your handset?

Why wouldn't you?

G changed his recently but only because he wanted a super expensive phone that you could only get on certain types of cheaper plan which didn't allow you to swap in your own number. I've had the same number since digital mobile phones came out (which my reckoning says about 9 years ago? could be wrong there).

I know many people who text me every 6 to 12 months saying they've changed their number. It's not that much of a nuisance for me, but I bet it was for them! The thing about PAC codes, I understand, is that if you don't do the request a couple of weeks in advance of swapping networks, it all gets screwed up and you lose your service in the swapover period. I've know a few people bemoan this process some time ago. May it's changed recently. I have no idea.

Digital mobiles, hmmm, well I had a Motorola Flare GSM in 1996 and this was digital. So over 10 years ago for me... I think I'd probably keel over if I lost my beloved mobile number after all these years.

I've upgraded twice now on Virgin (phones deciding to declare 'Insert SIM card' in dark deserted industrial estates or switching themselves off and requiring the battery to be reinserted when I'm waiting for calls from agencies). My 'tariff' is no longer being offered and I'm restricted in the phones I can get, but I buy the handset outright (usually with a good discount) and then pay for my calls only, which makes my bills around £3 a month.

Ah yes, but you're not such a gasbag as me! I make all my calls in the car on the way home from site/office/wherever. That way I don't spend all evening on the blower when I'm supposed to be doing housework. So I imagine that 45 minutes per day, five days per week is going to add up. On the flipside though, I did get to whinge at their Business Retention Manager this year, who did throw in the extras to be fair (I shall, of course, be expecting similar treatment next year). Customer of 11 years, spending around £500-£600 per year, I think is the type of custom worth hanging on to. After all, there's only one other shop that I spend that type of money in annually and I can't help that one. It's an addiction to boots is the problem. I'd forego the phone on that basis, but I feel it would be rude not to use a new spangly pink mobile. Perhaps I should get my pink cowboy boots back out?

*laughs* True. My calls are more of the "I'm here, where are you?" one-minute affairs.

I must now bring into effect a severe ban on all bookshops, physical and online. Been buying bordering-on-out-print stuff for an essay and must have spent about £100 so far... And it would be worse if we actually had decent bookshelves, mind.
