Kiska (species: dog, age: 2) has been running up to cars as they pull into the driveway.  She ignores me calling, and instead front rushes at moving vehicles, then barks their way up the hill.  I call it "trying to get hit by a car," and there doesn't seem to be a way to get through to her, so she is either locked in the house or attempting death ( Read more... )

The simple fact that you worry about these things is exactly why you will make a MUCH better parent than most.

I listen to this gal - http://www.ktk9.com/ - you could email her your question and I bet she'll use it in her show and may be answer it for free? Or, I know you are not from here, but they always need callers! She's really wonderful and I have only heard good things about her advice!

Thanks for sharing your experience and the suggestion. I am asking around in the dog community here to see if anyone here has a remote training collar I can borrow, since I think it would help me get my point across fast, before this behavior gets habitual.

Also, I particularly love the phrase "incandescent with rage/fear" - that is exactly how I felt!

Of *course* those are scary behaviors for you! Your response shows how much you care. What you need are new techniques, and I agree that a dog trainer or an obedience class would be helpful.
By the way, I tried to find you on Flickr, but it claimed to be unable to find you. Why don't you try inviting me as a friend? I'm "msongbird" on Flickr.
Good luck with Kiska!
