I vote for being comfortable. Your presentation will come across a lot better if you look confident.

I know I have a hard time being confident if I'm worrying about sweat stains. And I hate being too hot.

If it was anyone but that particular batch of people, I'd definitely say comfy. As is it, you might as well be comfy and nervous, instead of uncomfortable and nervous.

What was the question?

I think you have plenty of incriminating photos already, actually...

Like books, one can never have too many.

Ha. I agree when it comes to books.

So do you have an opinion on the pants?

I want your mom's advisor as my new best friend!

I would love to wear jeans, but I figure business casual is about as casual as I dare.

I presume your committee members have been seeing you in T-shirt-and-jeans or equivalent every day.

I think as long as you're making an attempt to look like you're taking this more seriously than "everyday", you should be fine. I don't know that I've seen anybody defend in a suit. But I don't know that I've seen anybody defend in blue jeans either.

My vote is with your idea of comfy here--it's probably just enough above everyday to convey that you prepared and thought about it and consider it important enough to bother, without disrupting your concentration during your defense.

peace,

--me
