Dixie Pumpkin Doodle AAD, OA, OAJ, NF
Dixie. I love you. You and all your quirks!
You taught me so many things about how to train dogs. Why positive reinforcement works better than choke chains. How to manage a fearful dog and gain trust. You gave me my love for agility and dog training. You showed me that every dog is like a person and has their own personality. You always mope when I'm away and are definitely my dog. You still look up at the sound of diesel trucks - loyalty runs deep in your veins. You patiently taught two puppies how to respect older dogs. I have never had to worry through my years of living alone that anyone would break into my house, which was a true blessing. You are a dog of many simple pleasures - rolling around in the grass, going on a trail ride, chasing a cat. You are the best hiking dog, even though we don't go nearly enough. You are strong-willed to the core, and I have learned to embrace that as it has proved to be a wonderful trait so many times. You are very honest. You are the dog at my side when anything is wrong. And even though you are a pain in the ass at times, I couldn't imagine my life without you. I will forever be grateful for everything you are.
The day I brought Dixie home she was not scared of the horses...
She stole my heart from the beginning
Dixie and I both had casts on at the same time - her was a broken pinky toe at 9 weeks old (shut in the door :( ).
College graduation with a dog at my side (1.5 yrs)
While Dixie loved agility, she was notorious for jumping early to catch up with me. (4 yrs)
Where's the jump?
She was a fantastic weaver .. when she wasn't distracted :) Everything is on her agenda!
She's the best trail dog ever. And is at her happiest.
Raising puppies to respect other dogs!
I love it when big dogs fit themselves into little beds.
Dressing up for St Patty's day by rolling in freshly mowed grass.
It's never too old to learn new tricks, like two dogs trying to lie down on the steps at the same time.
Classic Dixie pose .. with her tongue sticking out!
After agility retirement, her favorite thing to do was to come home for a long run in the pasture. Where we would practice recalls and great photo ops, like catching food. She is the master at this.
My diva dog, showing off her CSU bottle opener on her collar. She always wore one in case she needed to retrieve a bottle of the fridge.
Have I said how much I love this dog. She's the dog that sticks with you through thick and thin. Good times and bad.
Thank you Dixie for everything you taught me. Here's to hoping for a long and healthy life!
