So I read one of the most satisfying Kripke interviews yet here (via keepaofthecheez ) and I perused the comments taking comfort in the fact that the interviewer - Maureen (or Mo) keeps them in check. And she did a good job on that.
It's a good point to make there - about Sam choosing a demon over his brother. What I find fascinating about that is that until the premiere I certainly didn't even consider that as a conscious choice Sam had made. Until Dean laid it out like that I honestly don't think Sam had seen it like that either. Which is actually a pretty massive indication of how obsessed he became - blinded to the fact that he was literally choosing a demon over his brother. This is the main crime he has to atone for. He only saw Ruby as a crucial means to an ends and disregarded the implications of that when it came to his brother. I did feel that in When The Levee Breaks Dean's determination to see the end of Ruby stopped him from putting himself in the position where he could do that. Sam wanted him to go with them to the lead on Lilith - Dean put conditions on it which Sam (being obsessed as he was) was never going to agree to. I remember watching that scene thinking - 'Just say yes Dean! - go with them, be sneaky Dean and use your head to get this done
