Are there any discounts for volunteers? toraneko July 15 2006, 07:24:22 UTC
Like, if I wanted to help out doing something for the event during the event? I'm used to work for play kinda stuff.

Also, what are the facilites for staying the weekend? Actors camp type setup? Are there bathrooms and showers for those staying? Inquiring minds want to know!

It's getting close, holy crap!

At Meridian?

Yes, we can work out something - full volunteers get a good/full discount. Part time NPC's get in-game incentives. (Like if you want to wander around as a monster when you are bored).

Facilities:
Bathrooms, portapotties. No showers. Bath in a can (deoderant) and bath in a box (baby wipes) recommended. ;)
We do have sinks in the main bathroom.

Camping - In Game and Out of Game - In Game Tents can camp at the large campground at the top of the village. In the game.
Hiking Tents will fill up at the small camping ground hidden away at the bottom, then outside the gates.

If thats the little park where they held a small ren faire a few years ago, I know the location.
Not far from SC village paintball? Near the Rauhaage ranch?

The price for admission is way higher than I expected, (About double,) so I will have to think long and hard about attending, I'm afraid.

Thats cheap compared to over in the UK. I don't think $75 is a lot to ask really as it works out as $25 a day. If you can get a place to sleep, a whole days entertainment, and someone to give you plot with fully costumes npc's and props for $25 a day, then you are a very lucky person.

I'm not sure what US larp is like for kit preporation and background/plot/system writing but over here people spend months doing it as our focus is on interaction and atmosphere. We have huge tents at event where people work behind the scenes on networked computer systems to make sure everything is logged and another where monster costume is checked in and out and npc's have make up applied and are briefed. This isn't boffer fighting in a football field.

We are half the price of a Renn Fair, and you get a lot more.

Keep un mind you get an 80 page printed rule book with the price. As well as minted coins for in-game money, three nights of camping and four days of entertainment. Plus all the facilities.

Compare it to camping in a field and I think you'll see it's a good deal.

Bring 7 friends along, and you all pay $55, if you book early. ;)

Time, unfortunately.

Have it still, partially done, but you would not believe how much work publishing a rule book is.
Plus site, insurance, props, costumes, crew, advertising etc).
Been busy as heck.

We have a slide show trailer for now, will go big on the trailer for next year.

I work that day, can't get it off, it's the same week as a healthfood convention my company has. It's even in our employee handbook that we can't take any days off in this month! Weekends are different though. I've not been asked to work their con.
I'll be in San Diego for ComicCon Friday thru Sunday night. Califurdiego is a party taking place Saturday night, I'll be there also.

Found info on the Califurdiego party if you have time...it will be Saturday evening, usually around 7pmish or check website for more info.

CalifurDeigo is ON!

Since the 1980's, the ComicCon Furry party was the largest one-night
Furry gathering around. For a few years, it was CritterConDiego, at
the Holiday Inn. It's been tricky to find a place to have the party
that is close to the Convention Center, buy Vinson found one! The
Horton Grand Hotel, a beautifully restored Victorian-style hotel on
Island St., just across from the Convention Center hosts the event in
the main ballroom.

Information about CalifurDiego can be found on the califur.com web
site, including the location of the hotel. Remember, we ask for a
donation of $5.00 (or more) to help cover the cost of the room.
