They're really expensive, too, so I try to cosplay characters I don't have to mangle my hair for. xD; I was looking at your cosplay pics though, and even without a wig, they all look amazing~ Of course.... I only know a few, but still. They look really good~ =D
They are little furry balls of cute X3 I've gone through 3 of them now. I think the one I currently have is a year old? So he's like middle aged I guess.

I totally hate wigs too, thus my cosplay are inaccurate, but they're usually so obscure no one cares anyway.
