I'd more likely ascribe this to incompetence than malice.

Oh, I'm sure there was no malice involved.

It's just this sort of incidental thoughtlessness that women creators and fans have been voicing their ire at for a long time now.

It's especially shocking given that for basically the last year, Women In Fandom(TM) has been a very hot topic.

...I don't think incidental thoughtlessness comes in sorts. I think that thoughtlessness only comes in one flavor of generically negligent apathy - possibly even by definition.

It's the fact that "possible attendees of the one panel would probably want to go to the other" is a blind spot that bothers me.

It would be disappointing, no matter the panels, but again: In a year when the role of women in Genre and Fandoms, etc, are such a hot topic, this should have been better thought through.
