In 1999, Rivera's third year as a closer, he got a contract worth a little more than 4 million. After that year, he made 7.25M. If that's what Papelbon means, then fine. But if he's expecting the 10+ Rivera made recently (let alone the 15M now), he's hallucinating.
hes buckin for a raise - which I think he totally deserves - but I think he and everybody else knows he wont be getting what mo' did. And that is totally fine.
The Red Sox are in a business, and they have a very nicely cost controlled closer, why would they give him more money? On top of that, Paps has only had two seasons, one of which his arm deteriorated at the end of the season. I don't think the FO wants to spend good money on a not so sure thing. I think you'll see him get a deal after one or two more years of good pitching.
I totally agree. It's about as dumb as athletes who refer to playoff series as "wars" and "battles" etc. Dude, you haven't actually fought in a war. Stop demeaning those who have.
He needs to shut up and pitch. That's the nature of the beast, kid. You want to be on the Sox and win titles? Get over yourself, keep throwing that ball the way you do, and eventually you'll get paid. In the meantime, put in your service time, toe the line, and be the model employee.
