For those who are familiar with the legalities etc. in the mlb:

does the fact that Mike Lowell has not yet filed for free agency mean anything at all? Is it something that can be looked at as a good sign b/c he can only discuss deals with the Red Sox? Or is that totally inaccurate?

Even if he filed for free agency, the Red Sox have a time period where only they can talk to Lowell.

if he doesn't file for free agency, this coming season will see Lowell in either a Red Sox uniform or retired. him not filing is a VERY good sign that he wants to stay in Boston

Well, unfortunately he filed for free agency which scares me a little bit because I was hoping this would be settled sooner than later. I definitely think he might check into the free agent market but something tells me he really wants to play in Boston. I guess it just depends on what Boston is offering.
