Time For A Fanfic Rant...

Not-so-Dear Secret Garden Badfic,

There are a little over 100 stories in the Secret Garden section at FFN.

… I was under the impression that the smaller the fandom, the higher the quality of it’s stories.

I guess I’ve been spoiled by the Dark is Rising fandom, the How I Met Your Mother fandom, and particularly, by the brilliance of most of ( Read more... )

Hahaha! I love this so much!

First off: I love The Secret Garden so freakin' much. Both the book and the movie are too gorgeous for words.

But how horrible does this badfic sound? So incredibly, incredibly horrible!

Show us the tragedy of the angelic moor boy turning into a soldier. This is a story I would love to read. Just out of curiosity, have you read all the Anne of Green Gables books? Because this reminds me of something that happens in Rilla of Ingleside, which is one of my favorites.

I love Colin! I didn't realize everybody hated him! Sadness!

It’s much more fun to imagine that if Mary and Dickon ever fell in love, Colin would be their fiercest defender. He’d be like, “SCREW CLASS DIFFERENCES, if anyone says another word against you two they will have Young Mister Craven telling them to STFU.” (Only, he’d say it in Yorkshire, of course XD) Yes, yes, yes!

Bah. I’m off to write a Mr. Robin Redbreast/Mrs. Robin Redbreast fic. It’s the only canon Secret Garden couple that procreates within the course of the story. ( ... )

I know! I guess I’m biased because I have a weakness for reformed brat characters(exhibit B: Eustace Clarence Scrubb), but it mystifies me, how anyone could hate a kid who’s been put through all that. Yeah, he is spoiled and haughty, and retains some of those qualities even after the change comes, but that’s part of his charm! I love how he played up the rajah persona to a tee…remember when he’s coming up with grandiose ways to thank Mrs. Sowerby for her kindness? So cute! *melts*

…Sadly, I’ve never read a single Anne of Green Gables book. I swear, I’ll get around to it one day!
After I finished typing that rant, though, I went searching some more and found some (good!) fic where spirited, idealistic Colin enlists for WW1 but Dickon chooses to stay out of it because it’s against his principles. It was a nice change from the usual angstysoldier!Dickon route.

But the redbreasts are canon love! There’s a chapter starter dedicated to their children/eggs! ; )

I’ve never been picky about ‘who Mary must end up with’-either Colin or Dickon is fine by me(cousins marrying was acceptable back then). But I hate when fic writers have to roll over a character in the process. :/

Rrrrr. Three fics out of five I clicked, and Mary was wibbling in the first or second chapters. What. She cried only twice in the book-and it was out of tantrum-y or righteous anger. XD

Anything that bothers me about Colin always goes away whenever I read the ‘Curtain’ chapter. And the ‘Let them Laugh’ chapter. Just, d’awwww. <3

There are some well-written ones scattered here and there, although to be honest, I find a lot of them too saccharine/lovey-dovey. This sad but lovely one is currently my favorite(I love teh angst, what can I say). Ahhh, goodfic!

The love, it goes both ways<3

AND WUT, YOU READ MY MIND.
Seriously! I’ve been considering Colin/Sara for the longest time now! They neeeeed to find each other and make Magic together. Plus, Rajah/Princess? Perfect! *sets rabid bunnies on you*
