The Sunday Six: Taking It To The Streets

Nov 13, 2005 13:31

This week's Six comes from a suggestion by scifinut, and it involved a rather pleasant afternoon spent wandering around peculiar pieces of London, trying out my new digital camera. It was also made even more pleasant by the fact that most of the streets in and around the City had been totally cleared of traffic, just for me. (Well, me AND some trifling ( Read more... )

I've whiled away many a happy hour a tthe Bleeding Heart Tavern. Especially when it's happy hour was two for one on magnums of champagne.

There used to be an 'Of street' down by Embankment because the Duke of Buckingham insisted that the streets round there were named after him - George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham.

And Gropecunt Lane - now Milton street.

Oh yes, I had read about the latter before, but thought I'd omit mentioning it since I'd probably already worn out my welcome with the cock jokes. ;)

It's a shame when the old names are changed like that.

I can never decide whether Number One Poultry is nice or horrid. On the whole, I think the pink stripes err too much on the side of tackiness. On the other hand, we should all be grateful that they didn't build a huge branch of KFC there...

A very fun Six today! I'm in favour of anything that involves wandering about outdoors like that. Also, I really want to live on Haunch of Venison Yard. I have never seen anything that could top that.

Also, thanks for the link to electricana - it's a gorgeous photo blog, and seems well-maintained; I love having photos on my flist but don't want to suffer through lots of bad ones, bad judgment etc.

Yes, I do like it when the Internet encourages me to get out and about. Particularly because it tends to have the exact opposite effect.

And yes, Alasdair's photos are dead good. He's been a bit quiet on that front lately, since I think he's trying to concentrate on writing, but with a bit of luck his muse will bite him into doing some more before long (HINT HINT)...

I was out taking pics the other day, actually. Just need the time to go through them and see if I got any of the shots I was after.
