Klytus, I'm bored...

When contemporary popular culture fails to please, go retro. That's my motto and I'm sticking to it.

You may or may not be old enough to remember the 1980 movie version of Flash Gordon but I'm certainly am and it always fills me with the glow of lovingly toasted cheese, seasoned with a sprinkling of the sauce of unexpected perviness ( Read more... )

My wife bought me Flash Gordon on nice and shiny Blu-Ray for Christmas. Still haven't actually watched it yet, but... (Nope. Never seen it at all. I know. At least I have it to look forward to...)

There is a Brian Blessed thing for satnavs. We have it on ours. It is a thing of glory. "TAKE THE MOTORWAY! THEN DRIVE, SQUADRON 14, DRIVE!" "YOU HAVE REACHED YOUR DESTINATION! ONWARDS AND UPWARDS, TO EVEREST NEXT!" "TAKE THE FERRY, AND OFF TO TREASURE ISLAND, A-HARRR!" *ahem*

(If that Brian Blessed wake-y up app is available for iPhones, I may have to get it. I certainly need help waking up in the mornings...)

I got that title reference the minute I read it, and laughed aloud (here at three thirty AM, making the cat stare at me)

Hee! Oh I had such fun with that campy movie, and the title song by Queen! Sometimes I still tell my kids, "Flash I LOVE you, but we only have fourteen minutes to save the Earth!'

They generally look at me with the same expression as the cat, alas.

Thanks for the good memories and the chuckle!

I've seen the film several times, and have happy memories of a show at the university cinema in particular. The whole audience of 200+ muttering along with certain lines of dialogue. It's such a lot of fun.

Just make sure you don't hire a copy of 'Flesh Gordon' by mistake. SO not suitable for families...
