Such are the barbarous innovations of our day

I'm afraid I haven't been posting much lately, a state of affairs that probably frustrates me more than it frustrates you. But alas, my brain has sunk into a sort of blancmangelike inertia and my creativity levels are scrawny at best. It's all a bit sad, really.

Nonetheless, in the interests of squeezing something out of my head, here is a ( Read more... )

That bookshelf-wall is divine!

It's nice to hear from you. I don't know what I covet...wait, I do, sleep. But that's probably too much for even a fairy godfather...

I'm sure fairy godfathers can babysit for a few hours while you have a bit of quality snooze time. They're magical that way. :-D

I lust after a Tetris bookshelf (second photo). You can change the configuration to suit, and store tall books and vases/whatever. If I had a spare wall, I'd get my brother to make me one.

This Tetris furniture is cool too, but I fear I couldn't have it in the house, or else my brain would end up constantly trying to fit the blocks together and driving me bonkers...

Ooh, I like that too! And I could fit shelved under sloping ceilings.

Not to mention that your furniture would keep disappearing every time you fit them together, and you'd lose money constantly replacing all of it.

White, deep-set, high-rise bookshelves are where it's at. I always think that's a North London thing in my own mind. I don't know if I could pull them off in my East London flat. Well, you need high ceilings for starters and a flat big enough in general to slide a chaise longue into to drape yourself in a fabulous velvet dress on, which I'd also be partial too!
A cigarette holder, that's what I'd like. I used to have one but I gave it away to someone who smoked more than me. Dur.

Fitting one's dream furnishings into reality is always the problem, innit. I fear I'm not going to be able to pull off (or indeed pull) any of my fantasies while living in my current petite shoebox...

Oh James Purefoy is 6'2".... *iz shallow and 5'11"* ;)

Very nice......

I love those huge shelves and covet a house with a room that's a library. Of course I'd have to re-cover all my paperbacks with lovely leather bindings to make them look posh, but it would be worth it.

I also want those stairs that light up.

Let me know when the fairy godfather arrives m'kay thx?

Yes, it's always nice to fancy a tall celebrity bloke for once, if only so that I can stop using the excuse "Oh well, I suppose we won't be standing up much." ;-)

Droooools over wall of books...

...but...

...part of me is looking at that thinking "but books aren't uniform sizes. So what about the really big ones? Where do they go? And if you've got loads of smaller ones, that means wasted space, in which I could have put MORE BOOKS".

(I need to get out more)

I think the ultimate bookshelves would need to have a little control panel thingy that meant you could adjust them: then they would rise and slide and separate and lock quietly into position like a magic maze, allowing them to fit neatly around anything you desire to pile upon them.
