Another season, another reason, for eating cookie...

According to a spurious survey in the news this week, Britain's favourite biscuit* is the custard cream. A disappointing choice, since while the custard cream lies above the cardboardy depths of horridness associated with the Rich Tea** (bleurgh), it still isn't anything to write home about. Either the nation's collective snack-life is much more ( Read more... )

Ooh, biscuits! I could talk about biscuits all day. Have you been here? (Ignore the apparent defection to cake implied by the front page: their pages of biscuit reviews are required reading for the biscuiteer, and I have enhanced many laborious wage-slave hours by just looking at the pictures. Ahem.)

I heartily support your plain chocolate love (alas, for the Best HobNob) and the Fox's Crunch Cream is a prince among biscuits. And the Duchy Originals bit although we are not allowed to admit it ever. But Boasters are a bit crap due to being a bit oily instead of buttery. Same with Co-Op's version of the 'finest' choc chip ones: anything that leaves that sensation of crumbly air in one's mouth is ultimately a bit unsatisfying. Although it does make you want to make home-made ones every now and then. (Delia's shortbread = WIN, btw ( ... )

Yes, I am very familiar with A Nice Cup Of Tea etc. In fact, I think I was intending to include a link in this post but forgot. Ooops. I do find they are fonder of plain biscuits than I am, though. Perhaps it's all middle-class pretension on my part. Maybe I should start a site called AFreshlyGroundSingleEstateCoffeeAndARollOnTheChaiseLongue.com?

But yes, there is no shame at all in having extensive biscuit-related opinions and expressing them at any suitable instance. It shows you have your finger on the pulse of the issues that matter...

Ahh, cookies/biscuits. I live primarily on Peek Freans Ginger Crisps dipped in warm milk. But the McVities chocolate digestives are up at the top of my list, as well.

Hob Nobs are good, too. I'd settle for a Hob Nob if no ginger crisps were forthcoming.

There's a lemony peek frean that I never see around here, but I know they exist. They're yummy.

Have you had Tim Tams? They're more like candy than cookie. Even I can only eat one or two at a time, which is saying something.

Tim Tams are Natures Perfect Health Food. I've been arguing that for years.

Clearly we Aussies should be exporting Tim Tams more. Think of it - a massive economic boost based on CHOCOLATE!

Tim Tams come in various versions - the ordinary milk chocolate originals, wonderful dark chocolate, ones with caramel filling, one with chocolate fudge filling, double-dipped ones ... *sigh*

they're so hard to find here (here being Canada) that when I find a shop with Tim Tams, I buy as many packages as I can afford. ;)

You already are exporting them: my local supermarket sells them. I suspect they are aimed primarily at Aussie ex-pats, though, because we already have the Penguin biscuit which is extremely similar (according to that Wikipedia link, Tim Tams are based on Penguins) and is available in the same range of variations.

I liked Penguins as a child but find them hard to get excited about nowadays, which probably explains why the prospect of Tim Tams doesn't really do it for me...

Oooo yes, I agree with your choices. However my absolute favourite of all time is all butter shortbread. They usually roll out the really good stuff at Christmas which always confuses me as it's not exactly linked to the season! Sainsburies and Tesco do some lovely 'finest' ranges which are gorgeous. Have to say your top choice is definitely one of my favourites when I'm feeling chocolate-y though.

OMG I'm so hungry right now! LOL!!!!

Ah yes, I used to work in Farringdon and my office was very near the Italian deli on Clerkenwell Road, so we bought a lot of those biscuits. My favourites are the Tenerezze al Limone. Mmm...
