Bear-faced crowdpleasing

It has been suggested to me, albeit in a tongue-in-cheek fashion, that after a lovely weekend in an international capital of culture, I ought to have something artistic or intellectual to share with the viewing public, rather than just my own cake-obsessed witterings ( Read more... )

Rousseau's tiger is one of my favourites. I think having 'Surprise!' in the title qualifies it for cuteness.

I like Rousseau lots, but I wouldn't call the tiger cute, exactly - he's a bit on the snarly side. The lions peeping out of The Dream are pretty sweet though, and Rousseau's monkeys tend to be rather appealing too.

It probably doesn't get any cuter than Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash.

Good call! That is an ace picture, and cuteness in modernism is particularly hard to find.

Glad you like it. It is so relieving that these endless hours of history of art are finally good for something.

Putti, rather like real babies, don't count as cute in my hard-hearted book. Chagall in general tends to make me go "?" and move on, but I guess I shouldn't knock a goat-lover. Tiki is clearly something I ought to get into more, but reminds me that Mayan art is often amazingly charming, even though it involves a lot of people with dead animals on their heads.

I've always liked Franz Marc's "Red Horses", which is like My Little Ponies for grown ups.

Saw some seriously cute Brancusi sculptures in the Guggenheim 2 years ago, in a special exhibition - all curves and silky smoothness, but alas, strictly hands off. They needed to be stroked. *sigh*

I'm not much on horses (sorry!) but Marc's Tiger is sweet...

That is an adorable bear, no doubt. It is VERY cute. I want one for my backyard. I can't think of any other cute art off the top of my head, though. Sad times.
