on some level, i think i'm hoping for escalation between the extremes. clearly, it is intellectually wrong to take pleasure in someone's death, but i'm not gonna lie about it. it made me happy. and not just in the "he did bad things and it's good that he won't be able to do them anymore but it's still sad when a human being dies" kinda way. i'm glad he's dead on a personal level, not just a better-for-society level.

irrational hatred deserves the same in return. and maybe we should be the bigger people and be magnanimous about it. but fuck that. when you think of all the pain and ruined lives he and people like him have (perhaps indirectly) caused, it's hard to hate him. and i'm perfectly comfortable taking the hit on my moral credibility. it's wrong, but that doesn't bother me nearly enough to stop me from being happy about his death.

and i fully acknowledge that this is dangerous territory to be treading in. but what's life without a little moral ambiguity?

I respect where you're coming from, and I respect you as a person, so it's not like I'm trying to change anyone's mind. You're entitled to be happy about it.

I mean, hell, I'd be no better than Falwell if I told you there was only one right way to feel. If we all had the same morals, then Jerry Falwell wouldn't even be famous.

Hope you had a good trip. The elite thing worked out well. I, apparently, rock. And because J didn't have to buy it, he bought a new receiver this weekend. So now I don't have to wait a half hour for the sound to come on when I want to watch a movie. Everybody wins!

I came here to tell you something, but I have totally forgotten what it was. I'll be back later.
