I'm on vacation

Tom's parents rented a beach house in the Outer Banks (NC) for a week.  This house is frankly amazing.  It has a pool, a hot tub, three floors and about 6 full bedrooms.  They let us have the king size bed, which bedroom has its own private bathroom.  We're a 3-minute walk from the beach.  Last night I slept with the window open and the salt smell ( Read more... )

The Santa Cruz Beach "Boardwalk" is open here now, and the screaming children on the rides, the smell of cotton candy being made, kettle corn, waffle cones, pizza, deep-fried beach foods, the smell of the beach, the smell of the wooden railroad trestle and dry imported sand and distant cigarette smoke, the squawking soaring seagulls, a million sandcrabs digging or shelter with ever wave that washes up, the light humidity in the breeze, it all is pulling me back to Ocean City like that indescribable force that pulls the Pevensie children off the platform at the train station. It pulls so hard my eyes water. But gravity is strong here. For some reason I don't just zap 3000 miles and materialize on the boardwalk at Ocean City where my soul resides ( ... )
