I don't know what to say about this. I don't really know these people-you know that. But I was completely wrapped up in this story, and the people. I know a wee bit about the background, enough to make it clear to me what's going on and to be captivated by it.

Coulson I do know and even in the tiny snippets he appeared you made him cool as he is. Bucky…wow. I was floored. How you took him from this brash American, the kid I kind of remember from when I was a kid, to that cold-blooded-no, that's not even right-to a machine who did what he was told for the good of the State knocked my socks off. That one section where he blows up the car and then makes for th street, holy shit, you put a movie on the page. Great, great visuals and when I reread it, I was shocked by how few words you used. You really set place *and* what was going on or not going in his head. *Shakes head* You absolutely are the BEST at stuff like this ( ... )

I will respond in greater length later, but I just had to say, "THANK YOU!" Seriously, you just made the huge amount of effort and time it took to produce this thing utterly, wholly, without question worth it.

The scene you're talking about, or, as I refer to it, the New York assignment, was actually the first section I wrote. And, I don't know if you caught it, but what precipitated the whole fic itself was the very simple, extremely terrifying notion that Bucky (as Winter Soldier) assassinated Howard and Maria Stark. I started in the middle and framed that scene, so of course I'm thrilled to bits you picked that one over all others.

Anyway, God, I love ya to bits, Snuggles! *smish*

P.S. In case you like visuals, here be our main character:

(Note: this turned into author's notes. Sorry 'bout that, hon!)

In truth, I thought of writing this fic (like I do pretty much everything) for myself because ultimately I love the Bucky/Steve dynamic (as platonic buds, surrogate bros, lovers, or what have you), and I hadn't (yet) stumbled across any fic that handled their relationship the way I viewed it. And, let's be honest here, it's the same kind of (b)romance I write in every other fandom--that surface-level causticity masking the true depth of feeling and just plain need for the other person ( ... )
