Prologue Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Interlude Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6
I don’t think I slept very well that night, scenarios of Junsu dumping me keep running through my head, I can’t wait for the new day to arrive. The next day, I was waiting in the carpark for Junsu to arrive. I had called Changmin earlier, waking him up and he told me Junsu was better and would be coming to school today. His car soon came into the carpark, only he was not driving it but Eunhyuk, my nemesis but luckily Changmin was with them, so hopefully there wouldn’t be any scene later.
Junsu got out of the car; my heart ached at the sight of him looking pale and frail. Where has the sunny boy I loved gone to? Did I somehow cause him to become like that?
I quickly moved towards him and called out softly to him since he had not noticed me yet, “Junsu-ah.” He seems startled by it as he looked up at me standing just a few steps away from him.
I quickly moved to give him a big hug because I just needed to be close to him. “Junsu ah, are you feeling better today?” I asked in concern, pulling him closer into my arms. He fitted against me nicely. I must have squeezed him a bit too tightly because a groan of pain could be heard from him. Eunhyuk immediately moved to separate the two of us.
“Let go of him, you idiot.” He tried to pull Junsu away from me, not succeeding since I was not going to let go of my baby.
“Hyung, let go, he can’t breathe.” Changmin said as he pulled me off from Junsu.
He pushed the still weak Junsu into Eunhyuk’s arms and they left, with him carrying most of Junsu’s weight.
“Wait, Junsu.” I called out to his retreating figure, he didn’t turn back to look at me at all. Is he still angry with me? I still haven’t had the chance to explain what happened.
“Hyung, you’ve done enough today.” Changmin said as he moved to block me from following them.
“I thought you were on my side?” I asked.
“Well, I am and that’s why I’m doing damage control for what you done just now.” He replied nonchatlantly.
“Junsu-hyung’s fever only broke last night and he is still weak from his sickness, I don’t think he can stand your bone-crashing hug at the moment. Do you want him to dislike you more? He can be very scary when he gets mad.” he asked.
“No. Of course not.”
“Then you better listen to me if you want to get back into his good books. Just go for your classes, we will talk more later.”
I went for my classes, hoping to see Junsu but he did not appear again. I wonder where he and Eunhyuk went? Even Yunho was asking me where Junsu was? I got my answer during lunch from Changmin, who seems to know it all.
“Junsu hyung? He’s resting at the nurse’s office, Eunhyuk hyung is with him.”
“What happened?”
“You happened.” He said giving me an accusing look.
“What did he do this time?” Yunho asked.
“Only trying to squeeze Hyung to death.” Changmin said. Yunho give me a look of disgust when he heard the answer.
“So what am I supposed to do? Go down on my knees and beg for forgiveness?” I said in jest.
“Hmph. That might work.” Changmin pondered over my answer. I can’t believe the guy is actually thinking about it, I was only kidding.
“Let’s see whether we can catch Junsu hyung before he goes home today. Meet me at the carpark later.”
I arrived at the carpark earlier than Changmin. I was pacing the floor when he finally arrived.
“So what do I do?” I asked my advisor. Suddenly I was distracted by a familiar figure, I pointed my finger to some distance away. “Look, isn’t that Junsu?” He was with another guy who was helping him into a car.
“Who’s that guy?”
“Hmm…that’s not good. That’s Shiwon hyung.”
“Who’s he? What do you mean not good?”
“He means you don’t stand a chance with Junsu anymore.” Eunhyuk’s voice suddenly said beside us. I immediately look to Changmin for confirmation.
“Don’t listen to him, he’s just trying to scare you. Shiwon hyung is Junsu’s hyung family’s doctor. So hyung is more sick than we thought?” Changmin turned to Eunhyuk to ask the last part.
“No thanks to the idiot here.” Eunhyuk smirked at me.
“Why do you dislike me so much?” I finally asked the question that had been bothering me for so long.
“Dislike you? That’s putting it mildly.” I detest you, for your information.”
“Why? What did I ever do to you?”
“Do? Nothing. I just don’t like you.”
“Is it you want Junsu for yourself?”
“No. He’s my best friend since young.”
“Then why?”
“Because you are not good enough for him. He deserves someone better.”
“Who are you to say I’m not good enough for him?
“You can always ask Changmin here.” I turned to look at Changmin.
“Well, erm…you’re not really Junsu hyung’s type.” Changmin stammered out. I stared at him in disbelief, even he is deserting me?
“So what do you want me to do to prove that I’m good enough for him?” I challenged Eunhyuk.
“Park Yoochun, let’s do it this way, if you can win me in a fight. I will accept your relationship with Junsu. If you lose… you know what happens.”
“I’m not going to give up on Junsu even if I lose and I’m not going to lose.” Well I do have a 3rd dan black belt in taekwondo so I’m pretty sure I won’t lose to that monkey.
“Hyung, Junsu hyung won’t be happy if he knows about this.” Changmin tried to be the level headed one among us. Eunhyuk stared at him.
“Fine, I’m going too to make sure you guys won’t kill each other. I need to go home to get my stuff. Let’s meet at the gym later.”
Changmin walked with me while Eunhyuk went back on his own. On the way, I decided to ask him about my rival.
“So, is Eunhyuk any good?”
“Yes, you better be careful. He’s a lot better than he looks. He is a 4th dan black belt taekwondo expert.” Shit, he's a level higher than me. I had hoped that at least I would have some advantage over him.
“Do you know taekwondo too?”
“Yes, my mom made me learn some taekwondo for self-defense since I was always bullied in school when I was younger.”
We reached my place all too soon. I bided farewell to Changmin, agreeing to meet him at his place after I get my gear. I went back into my place to get my stuff, not knowing why I packed it in the first place never thinking I would need this for the mission. After that, I walked to Changmin’s place. I reached his place in just a while; I was just raising my hand to knock on his door when I saw someone out of the corner of my eyes.
“Junsu.” I called. He turned to look at me in surprise. I’ve reached him in seconds, not wanting to let him out of my sight again. I grabbed his arms to prevent him from going anywhere before I have a chance to explain to him what happened.
“We need to talk.” He nodded.
“Come in.” he said opening the door to his place to let me in.
“How do you feel now?” I said still concerned about him, he looks better than this morning but still a little too pale for my taste. I want the old healthy Junsu to be back.
“I’m feeling better, the doctor said I shouldn’t try to overexert myself today.”
“I’m sorry for this morning, I was just too happy to see you.”
“I know.”
“Erm… about the thing that you saw the other day…” I didn’t know how to continue. He just looked at me patiently, waiting for my explanation.
“She’s just a girl I dated before who wants to get back together but I told her I already had someone else and she just kissed me. I was too stunned by her actions but I pushed her away after that. You are the only one in my heart. I haven’t look at another person since I met you. You have to believe me.” I explained in a rush, looking at him pleadingly.
He looked at me for a while not speaking at all. The silence in the room was deafeningly while I waited for his answer. He finally said, “I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt this time.” I was ecstatic at his words; jumping up to hug him but stopped myself in time. He smiled at my actions, moving forward into my arms. I hold him gently in my arms, breathing in his scent and placing a kiss on his forehead. This was a moment I will treasure. He suddenly speaks out. “If there’s a next time, I’m going let Eunhyuk deal with you.”
His words jolted me, Damn, I nearly forgot about my duel with Eunhyuk. What am I going to do? Suddenly my phone rang. It was Changmin who must be calling since I’m taking such a long time. Should I tell Junsu the truth?
“Hello? Erm… I’m at Junsu’s place now.” I said as I picked up the phone.
“Who’s that?” Junsu asked.
“Changmin. We agreed to go somewhere.”
“Ask him to come over.” Junsu said.
“Erm… Changmin, Junsu said to come over to his place.” I could hear the expletives from the phone. I hoped Junsu didn’t hear it.
In minutes, we could hear the knock on the door; Junsu went to open it to let Changmin in.
“So where are you guys going?” Junsu asked us, looking from one to the other, searching for something on our face. Both of us looked at each other, not wanting him to know about the duel but what do we tell him instead? A knock on the door saved us, Junsu went to open the door and guessed who was it, Eunhyuk. The day was really not going well for us.
“So you are all here. Coming to tell tales?” Eunhyuk snickered at us.
“No. Of course not.” Changmin and me said in unison.
“What is this about?” Junsu finally asked looking at all of us.
“Nothing.” I said. He obviously didn’t believe me as he looked at Changmin pointedly. Changmin withered under his look finally stammering out the truth. “Hyungs are having a duel.”
“We are going to the gym to pit our taekwondo skills against each other. It's just friendly fun. We haven’t done this for a while.” Eunhyuk said looking at Junsu so innocent, not telling him the whole truth.
“Ok. I go too but I will stay on the sidelines today.” Both Changmin and me looked at Junsu in disbelief. How could he believed that Eunhyuk so easily?
“Let’s go then.” With those words, all of us left Junsu’s place to go to the gym near their place. Imagine our surprise when we saw the Jaeho couple there too.
“Hyungs, what are you doing here?” Changmin asked Yunho who was trying to teach Jaejoong some moves.
“Can’t you see, I’m teaching Jaejoong some moves, it’s better for him to learn some form of self defense. Who knows what will happen?” I nodded, thinking that’s a good idea, especially when he has the mafia on his tails.
“What about you guys? Haven’t seen you here for a while?” Yunho asked us.
“Micky and Eunhyuk is having a duel to settle their differences.” Junsu said surprising all of us. I thought he didn’t know. Eunhyuk just smirked at my bewildered look.
“This will be interesting to watch.” Yunho said, getting excited.
The rest of us then went to get changed except for Junsu. After getting changed, Eunhyuk and me went onto the mats and faced each other. The rest of the guys just sit and watched us circling each other like hawks each waiting for the chance to strike.
“Who do you think will win?” I heard Changmin asking Junsu. I didn’t hear Junsu’s answer as the man opposite me noticed my inattention and started his attack. He was good and very fast. I managed to block his attacks now and then, getting hit a few times but I managed to throw in a few of my own attacks on him. I would say we were quite evenly matched though he was faster. Like Changmin said, he was better than he looks and he’s way sneakier than me, catching me off guard a couple of times with some fake moves.
We have been fighting for a while, with neither of us getting the better of the other. I hope he is tiring since I don’t think I could beat him in terms of skills. I was getting tired too; suddenly I heard a shout, “Look out.” The next thing I knew I was on the ground with Eunhyuk standing over me. Out o f the corner of my eye, I saw him trying to move to give me another kick but was stopped by Junsu. “That’s enough. You already won the match.”
Junsu moved to help me up, saying to me, “You’re quite good, you’re just need some more practice before you can beat Eunhyuk. He’s way more devious than you are.”
“Hyung, are you alright?” Changmin asked in concern. I nodded my head still rubbing my side, which hurts from the kick Eunhyuk gave me.
“Eunhyuk, you should practice with Yunho hyung and stop picking on the weak.” Junsu said to a smiling Eunhyuk, which wipes off his smile immediately.
“Why would I be so stupid to spar with him?” Eunhyuk asked.
“Because I said so.” Junsu retorted giving him a look. Eunhyuk quickly moved to pull Yunho to the mats with him. I have never seen Eunhyuk so cowed before. He then turned to both Changmin and me, “The two of you should spar with each other.”
“But why?” Changmin whined.
“Because you need the practice and he is available.” Nobody defies Junsu when he is in that authoritative tone. I think he knew what the three of us were up to and this is his way of punishing us. My boyfriend can be real scary when he is mad. Note to myself, don't ever get him mad.
We changed sparring partners after that, with Yunho against me and Eunhyuk with Changmin. All of them were good fighters even Changmin though he needed better coordination with his limbs. Yunho without a word was the toughest among them not only skilled but also powerful. By the end of the session, all four of us were deadbeats. The only two energetic ones were Junsu and Jaejoong who had sat on the side watching us beat the crap out of each other.
I looked at Eunhyuk, knowing that I had lost the duel to him, wondering what will happen to my relationship with Junsu now? He must have caught my look as he made some excuse to move towards me. “So, Park Yoochun, you lost the duel.”
“I’m not going to give up Junsu.” I said to him in defiance.
“I didn’t expect you to do so that easily anyway, but bear this in mind, I’m not going to let you enjoy your relationship with him that easily too.” He said before walking away. I think I may have lost the duel but earned his respect.
