Prologue

Chicago, USA

Agent Xiah came into his office as usual in the morning and was told that his superior was looking for him. He was now standing outside the door to the room. He knocked on it waiting for a response.

“Come in.” A voice called out when he heard the steady rapping of the wood.

“Sir, you’re looking for me?” Agent Xiah asked as he entered the room of his superior. His superior was sitting in his chair, studying a file in his hand, you could see from his face that the case he was handling must be a difficult one as the signs of fatigue could be seen from his sleep deprived eyes.

“Yes, take a seat.” Inspector Holmes said as he waits for him to sit down before continuing. He looked at the young man in front of him. He was only 23 and was already one of their best agents, known for his intelligence, astuteness and calmness in a case. He may not be the biggest among them but his fighting skills were one of the best, in terms of his agility and swiftness.

“I assume you have heard about the murder case of the Columbian guy in the alley?” He started and waits for the man to take the file from him before continuing.

“Yes. I have heard about it.” Agent Xiah took the file and flip through it.

“Good. We have a witness to the murder. Seems like the Korean Red Dragon gang double-crossed the Columbian in a drug deal. The federal government have now handed the witness over to us since it involved 2 of the biggest group in organized crime. They do not have the resources or expertise to handle cases of this magnitude. So what do you think about it?”

“I think it’s a big risk we are taking if we are keeping him here since both the Korean mafia in US and the Columbian gang are after him. They have the resources to take him out anytime. This is a very big case and if the media get wind of this, it would be even more difficult to ensure the safety of the witness.”

“So what would you do?”

“I think it would be safer if he’s back in Korea where he will be more inconspicuous there and his anonymity could be protected since the local police would be able to keep a tighter rein on the media.”

“Good. That’s what I was thinking too. Agent Xiah, I would like you to be in charge of this case. You will need to go undercover in Korea to protect the witness, however you won’t be alone, I’m giving you the choice to choose the officers you want to assist you in this case. I have great confidence that you will do well in this case.”

“Thank you sir. I will do my best in this case to ensure the witness’s safety.”

“Good. That’s all I ask. You are dismissed.”

Seoul, South Korea (a few months later)

“So how is school today?”

“The same boring stuff. However, Jaejoong was nearly hit by a falling flower pot today and just two days ago, he was nearly ran down by a speeding car. Luckily U-know hyung was there to protect him.”

“That’s his job.”

“Xiah, this is not the first time something like this had happened to Jaejoong. I think we need more help if we want to ensure that he does not come to any harm.” The tall young man said as they sat down for dinner.

“So you think that the recent incidents are the work of the Red Dragon gang? I’m not so sure since they usually prefer more straight forward methods of getting their man.” The young man looked back at his companion who spoke.

“I have to agree with Max this time, it might not be the work of the Red Dragon gang but we cannot take these chances when it concerned Jaejoong’s life. ”

“Fine, so what do you suggest we do?”

“Is it possible to request for more help from HQ. If not maybe we could get some help from the local police in this?”

“I have to speak to Inspector Holmes on this. You know it’s already hard enough to hide the few of us since we are not allowed to divulge our identities and what will it means if more officers come aboard. I trust the few of you to keep a low profile. It will be hard to not draw attention if we become a bigger group. If the local police got wind of this case, they will definitely want to send someone to keep an eye on us. ”

“I think that’s a small price to pay for Jaejoong’s safety.”

“Jaejoong, how do you feel about that? U-Know and Max will still be the main ones protecting you but you might have to get used to more people following you around.” He turned to ask the man who was sitting quietly eating his dinner.

“It’s ok with me.” He said softly, glancing over to U-know now and then to see his reaction.

“Don’t worry, I won’t let them bother you.”

“Fine, so it’s settled. I will talk to the Inspector later and see what he can do for us.”

Phone conversation

“Hello, Sergeant Kim, this is Agent Xiah from Interpol, I believe that Inspector Holmes have spoke to you about the case?”

“Yes. He had spoken to the Superintendent about the extra help you guys’ need. Why are we only informed about this case now?”

“I believe everything you need to know about the case is in the file that I sent over.”

“Yes. I read that file.”

“So what kind of help can I expect from you?” Xiah said; he knew the other was not pleased with the request from the surly tone.

“I could send one of my guys to help but who is he supposed to get in contact with if you do not tell us your identities?”

“Sergeant Kim, just send the information about your guy to me and everything will be taken care of by us. We will make sure that he will is given the chance to get close to the witness too since he need to help in protecting him. However the identities of the agents are confidential so I don’t think I could give out that information. Your staff will need to find that out for himself but I don’t think that is necessary or important at the moment. He will have more than enough on his plate in protecting Jaejoong than in finding out who are the agents involved.”

“So that means he’s out in the open while the rest of you are in the dark? Isn’t that a bit unfair to us?”

“Sergeant Kim, I assure you that’s how it always work. This is done to protect our men. If your man is good enough, he should be able to spot us soon enough. So I will be awaiting your response soon. Thank you for helping us. I hope that our two sides will work well in this case.”
