Shame is an underrated emotion. Human frailty is inevitable, but shame can quiet certain offenses, isolate them, and allow them to shrivel up and die. I of course agree, and am glad (although, I stress, not surprised) to see you write this.

I think it is inevitable that avowed homophobia will acquire the same automatic shame as racism in America. I do wonder how long that will take. I'm confident it will happen within our lifetimes, but it may still be another couple decades...
