Today was annoyingly boring. Work was annoying, and I think gave me this stress neckache I only get when I'm hiding some anxiety in my body, and boring because good gods I wanted to do anything but my work. Instead, I roamed around LJ and Twitter, buying a new CD of Bear McCreary's, and listened to one piece of the Big Finish audio "The Mutant

Preach, io9! I miss a lot of things about Rusty's writing.
I am definitely setting my expectations for the series 6 finale very low. I am really hoping that after this, Moffat will have moved on from River for the foreseeable future and that with the Ponds not being on the Tardis he can start with a mostly blank slate for characters and now screw it up this time.
Timey wimey is just such LAZY writing. It's hand waving away legitimate plot concerns just so that the writer (in this case, Moffat) can tell his ~clever story. Do you know what is even more clever? TELLING A COMPELLING STORY WITHIN LOGICAL CONSTRAINTS.
I did enjoy "Blink", however with each passing rewatch it keeps losing its power, unlike Midnight for example
Same. Blink loses its novelty after a while, but Midnight just has some compelling character stuff that you can notice different nuances every time you watch.

I too miss a lot of what Rusty wrote, his characters, though flawed on a paper-level, came across as alive and real to me, whereas a lot of the characters from Moffat's era just seem to be paper-thin and obvious. I mean, he even TWEETS ABOUT HOW OBVIOUS THINGS ARE. *headdesk* So, as for the finale, I may or may not watch it for shits and giggles, and to say I have, but I'm not expecting much either.
I too agree that River should be moved out of the picture, and the Ponds in general, so that a new TARDIS crew can come in. It feels like it's time and, as it appears, so do the Ponds. (But you do know Moffat will probably screw that up too.)

Oh River and Doctor/River, I wanted so badly to like you. :(
Same. I wasn't into Doctor/River too much, but I wanted to see if it could be worked out and, if so, how they managed it. But, really, I just wanted River to be fantastically awesome and be the Doctor's equal (kinda like the Master just not without the psychotic arch-nemesis mess). Instead we get...what? Sexist themes that make me sick? FANTASTIC.
Ditto on the time travel: best used sparingly, not as whole series (or two) arcs. It doesn't work that way and, as fauxkaren said above, it can make for really ( ... )

If you feel, as I do, that those two episodes had some serious flaws, then you'll notice the same flaws in [the finale].
Fuck. I'm going to hate the finale.
I wanted that woman to be awesome when I first saw her in SitL/FotD, but what's come out since then has just made me sad.
Me too. I think a lot of the problem with her character is the way we're getting to know her. Firstly, she shows up knowing far more than she should (the Doctor's name, ffs), and dies. Why should we care? What's worse is she is introduced as his wife while an established, popular character with which the Doctor has had a romantic relationship is fighting her way across the void to save him. Then we slowly get to know River, she has her moments of unbridled awesomeness and then they're overshadowed by her co-dependent needs. "Strong female character" does not equal "woman with a ( ... )

So sorry to break the news to you. :( But, really, who knows what will happen other than regular Moffat shenanigans? I have heard that the last two episodes were pretty good, particularly dealing with emotions (so I'm thinking Moffat didn't write them? I'm pretty sure he didn't write at least one of them), but the finale just doesn't seem to be promising. How can you wrap up all of these threads when, in the very beginning of the series, you had the Doctor die? I'm curious to see if it does come together, making it a great series arc, but, tbh, I loved RTD's arcs much better. The pen is mightier than the sword.
"Strong female character" does not equal "woman with a gun."This, every word of it. She can have all the big guns, the flashy lights, and the facial expressions all she likes, but until she stands up to the Doctor for calling him out on his BS then she'll just be an afterthought. Never helps that her standing up to the Doctor must be something akin to standing up to the President and ( ... )

2. That it's crazy and weird? Most likely.
3. Sorry, I doubt either of those will happen. Could send him a tweet and see how he reacts (or not because...yeah, it's Moffat and I don't trust him around women).
