[Asuka almost jumped when the portal materialized out of nowhere. You think she'd be used to this sort of thing by now.]

Johnny! You made it!

[She offered him a smile and stood, waving a hand dismissively at the room.]

It's not much, but it'll work. The others should be getting here soon.

[He moved straight to her, picking her up and placing a lingering kiss on her lips.]

[He reached into his coat and pulled out a crystal rose, gilded with golden leaves, and ruby for the petals.]

[When he produces the rose, Asuka gasps and carefully takes it, casting a glance at Johnny as she admires it. He never ceases to amaze her sometimes. He's so much like Kaji in some ways...]

[Shinji walked carefully down the hall while carrying a box that held Asuka's birthday cake inside that he made the previous night(with Kaworu's help). He thought quietly to himself; hoping that there wasn't already a cake sitting there--although, it could never hurt to have two. However despite that birthdays usually mean a happy celebration, Shinji couldn't help but to feel a bit nervous ( ... )

[Asuka spotted Shinji a moment later and turned towards him with a grin, covering the distance in a few strides. She ruthlessly violated his personal space, flinging an arm around his shoulders and gesturing to the room with the other.]

Shinji! Took you long enough to get here, y'know that? I wondered if you were gonna show up at all!

[She pokes at the box with a finger.]

What's this? A cake?

[Startled by Asuka, Shinji immediately let out a yelp as his eyes grew a bit. As close as he and Asuka became over the months, this was something that he would never get use to. But Shinji quickly composed himself while flashing her a sheepish smile and an unease chuckle.]

A-Ahaha. Sorry, I didn't mean to...uh, t-take so long.

[His eyes traveled down to where she was referring to.]

Yeah. I uh,..made it last night. [Shinji's voice lowered to her.] That's..okay right?
