Excuse me, ma'am, did you put a pubic hair on my Coke?

I am so fucking sick of hearing the "rarely heard" Clarence Thomas whenever I turn on the damn TV. What, he can't bother to raise his voice regarding issues brought before the Court, but he can blather on and on now that he's got a book coming out? Give me a damn break! I remember the confirmation hearings, I remember Anita Hill's allegations, I ( Read more... )

Thanks -- it really is so difficult to respond appropriately when it's happening to you. I didn't when I was harassed and things got WAY out of hand without me really knowing how to get out of it. I do not want my daughters to go through that. Granted, they are already WAY more assertive and grounded than I was at that age, but I'm still going to react strongly when it happens ( ... )

I don't have a daughter, but I'm ticked enough on her and your (and my, from a long time ago) behalf that I'd go down there with the biggest dude I could find on my side AND maybe a cop.

I also recognize that it wouldn't help my daughter, wouldn't teach the skeeze a thing, and would almost certainly make my daughter a further target. 'Cause NOW he'd be MAD. He's straight, male, way too entitled, knows where she works, and now he's MAD. That's a seriously dangerous combination.

Too bad people would frown on it if you dumped him in the river with some cement shoes on. Ah, the niceties of society.

Right, that's what's holding me back -- the possibility that he could jump her in the parking lot or something. I mean, the managers protect their employees and the parking lot is right there in front of the plate glass window, but you just never know, right?

Rick asked me if I would get physical with the guy. No -- I've never, ever gotten into a physical fight, but his balls would be threatened with extinction. I would have NO problem being verbally intimidating -- I'm VERY good at that.

Yeah, and now this Isaiah Thomas thing -- I do NOT understand how men can be so damned entitled that they think it's ok to harass a woman. I mean, ask her out and if she says no, that's the end of it. What the hell?

Your advice is really good, and after I calmed down, Lindsay told me that her manager was very supportive of her. He did a little role-playing with her to help her have an appropriate response ready that she could deliver clearly and calmly. He told her to call him up to the register if the guy showed up in her line again, And he assured her that he would have no problem kicking the guy out if he spoke inappropriately to her. So I'm happy about that.

I still want to go put The Fear of Wendy into him, though. You have no idea (well, probably you do, we seem kind of similar in that way) how effective this is!

AWESOME!! This is a GOOD boss. (At least in this respect.)

Yeah, I thought that was really good of him. In general, it's a great job. She works with mostly older folks and they're all really kind to her.

I think the situation needs to be reported to law enforcement and the guy needs to get charged with harassment and attempted prostitution, or whatever they call those crimes in NY. I mean, the guy is not just a skeeze; he's a criminal skeeze.

I definitely wanted to call the cops. Her manager is helping her handle it, though, and that's an option if he does it again.
