Saw a bumper sticker a while back: "United we bargain, divided we beg." I guess it's working out for them.

Ever thought about unionizing your workplace?

I've worked for three different unions over the years, most recently for one where I paid forty dollars a week in union dues when I was only making about $250 a week . . . and seriously, we never received anything from the union in return.

I think unions have done a lot of good for a lot of people, but I think that a lot of them have become way too powerful. Strikes should be used to protest truly abominable work conditions, not just to force larger employer contributions to the pension fund, and especially not in the current economic climate.

It's not just my current workplace that's shortchanging employees. Things are tough all over, and I think it's time that the unions acknowledged that.

Just my feelings on the matter, of course.
