I'm going to go with Lurconis from Band Candy although every time they aimed for reptilian CGI they failed. I have no idea what the problem was (CGI still not being quite up to doing that, not enough budget for better CGI) but it was always the snakey/reptilian demons where it happened.

I don't know if its 90s or not, but Buffy jumping into the dimensional rift at the end of Season five is coolest thing that comes to my mind.

I assumed they meant SFX that would have looked awesome if done with ten years later technology but sadly limited when done with 90s tech.
