I'm seeing lots of people playing Words With Friends in my classes this semester. While I can usually resist it, on occasion I just can't hold back the urge to give a random stranger a pointer for a 50+ point play. Without fail, the reaction is usually some form of "that's a word?", which I affirm, then they play, and give me some befuddled look

Me too. Most (but definitely not all) of the OWL4 words aren't good. QI is good, WUSHU isn't. EMAILED is good, UNBALED isn't.

In my opinion, the biggest adjustment is strategy. It's almost never worth it to fish for a bingo because of all the scoring options and devalued bingo bonus.

The board is weird, especially the two DWS only five squares apart and the TLS so close to a TWS. Zyzzyva has a WWF lexicon if you need to check what's good (e.g. ZEN and FI are both playable).
