the more people you have, the more you can sway moral discourse and just the general [i hate to use it] weltanschaung in your favor.

i long for the day when christians understand, respect and possibily accept my faith. for now i am satisfied that they accept me as someone they could somehow possibly convert through calculated friendships of love.

Why don't I? Well, I don't keep the religion to myself, as you mentioned below, and I am certainly happy to teach people--as opposed to telling them they will suffer eternally if they do not see things from my point of view--so as to do away with ignorance. However, I don't think it's up to me to preach. If someone comes to me with questions or has a wrong idea, I will speak up, and sometimes I'll speak up just for the sake of speaking up, but I don't think it's my place to try to play shepherd.

This makes me sick. I truly loathe evangelical Christians.

yeah, they are lame, but at least they are better than tamil brahmins who keep the religion to themselves and don't share it with anyone :)

I had a few friends in college who were in IVCF--and my best, closest friend was pretty active with them--but while these people were sane and cool and had a lovely sort-of jadedness to them, the majority of IVCF people were scary. Just SO fake friendly and SO cheesy and SO full of good cheer, but honestly they were repelled by those unlike them. Other than the people I mentioned above, I never saw the IV kids hang out with anyone who wasn't in IV or who had any sort of background that deviated from their own. And they really ostracized people that may have decided to leave the group, or join another Christian group at school (IVCF was seen as more of a preppy "White" group, and there were specialty Christian groups from Black students, Asian students, etc.) Just weird. I went to one of their "women's" nights, and the self-hate was off the charts. I had no idea how much it was a part of their religious culture. One girl has said that she felt so broken and horrible because she could never be as good as God, and I made the mistake of ( ... )

yes, i love gheehappy. it's so cute. i want him to make a movie.

yeah the ivcf kids, or just evangelicals in general, have a sense of fake joy. i wonder if they sense it as well or if they are just that naive and earnest.
