Torchwood...thoughts

So, I decided to give Torchwood a go. Yes, I'm a million years behind on television programming. Mainly, because I like watching stuff on Netflix in chunks. Also, because I go through phases where I don't watch much TV.

Anyhow, I started watching it.

I love Gwen. I hate Owen. The rest is okay.

Second season is WAY better. I'm a Torchwood addict. I've read all the books and listened to all the audio plays so any questions just ask.

Does Owen become less of an undeniable wanker before he dies?

He does and as the show progresses you actually feel bad for him. There is a reason he's such a dick and even though his actions are unforgivable with the alien spray he does redeem himself...at least I believe he did. You'll also begin to dislike Gwen before she gets better and Ianto...well, I fell in love with him because he's just so tragic.

Captain Jack is an awful like Ten in Torchwood. Perpetually moody. However, there are still lots of DW Captain Jack in him.

Owen was a total wanker - and he will be again! - but he's still a great character, even when you want to punch him. :-P I really like Burn Gorman. Owen gets much more likeable in the second series. (And Neville's brother (Matt Lewis' brother that is) is in an ep in the second season. He's just as adorable as Matt!)

Oh! Thanks for my spidey!! ♥ ♥

Children of Earth was resoundingly depressing, wasn't it?

I never did end up liking Owen. Captain Hart, though...I am a sucker for him, really.

I really can't recommend it. I was really excited by the idea of Torchwood, but it's been nothing but a disappointment. Well, rather, it *was* nothing but a disappointment, until it became a fighting point in our relationship. I always leave the room when my husband watches an episode because the current(? most recent? I don't know what the airing schedule is) season is so bad that I can't stand to be in the same room as Torchwood any more. I swear that it's like they've taken something that would have made an awesome two-parter, dumped in a billion details, and made a whole season out of it. It's so boring it hurts.

This show is just way too depressing far too often.

That too. :/ At least Dr Who has at least a fair number of happy endings.

For me, the main draw is Cpt. Jack and the way he isn't ashamed of anything he is in the slightest. This is the way he is and he's proud of it and if others don't like it, tough for them. The rest... eh. I did like learning about TW through Gwen's eyes, but... I don't know. Owen is a wanker, Tosh is a doormat... Ianto becomes really cool later on, at first, I didn't like him much.

I like TW much more than Doctor Who, yet I have never been smitten with it.

I like Dr Who better...mainly because it's not so depressing all of the time. And I like how the Doctors are all a bit of fun. But, Torchwood isn't bad.
