The Bluest Eye totally destroyed me. I read it in Honors English my junior year of high school...and damn. It was so good and so heart wrenching. If you haven't read Beloved, it's on par with Bluest Eye.
I tried to read The Stand and got this terrible head cold, and couldn't pick the book back up XD However, Pet Semetary is one of my favorite books.
Have you read the short story The Yellow Wallpaper? I've totally just blanked on the author, but with your choices of books, I think it would be something you'd enjoy.
The. Yellow. Wallpaper. HATE. UTTER HATE. Omg. You picked my nightmare. Read that damned story so many damned times in college. YOU AND JANE CAN'T MAKE ME READ IT AGAIN!
And everytime I read about the smooches on her dress, all I can hear is "out damned spot."
Oh, I understand it. That's no issue for me. I've tutored it. It's just...that I dislike it. A lot. Although, it's important. Still, YOU AND JANE CAN'T MAKE ME READ IT AGAIN.
you've inspired me to post a list of my own shortly. Be on the lookout. Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who liked the Aenied more than the Oddessy.
Six out of twenty... *runs and hides* Not many of the classical ones, either. :D
I was astounded and delighted to see Reviving Ophelia on there: I thought I was about the only person on earth who'd read that! They wrote an earlier book about anorexia, if I remember rightly, but I've never been able to get hold of it.
As for Lois Lowry... After A Summer To Die I tend to avoid her books, though I must admit I have read ASTD about twenty times. The weakness of some of the plot points annoyed me, quite apart from the sheer horrifyingness of it all.
dou~jin~shi... well, you already well know that i worship you for the ydy stuff. anything and everything. i love it all. fwe. also... i suppose that bikke dj colorless... because, yes, vampire!tezzie ftw...
Eeeeeeeeew, Titus. ~makes a face~ I can't stand Titus Andronicus. It's.... yeah. It's like the Shakespearian version of a Sylvester Stallone movie.
:D The Aenied rocks. I should reread that, I haven't since 7th grade so that's... wow. XD A while.
The Divine Comedy rocks, and is a must for all. And is so much better then Milton. Blech, Divine Comedy over Paradise Lost any day.
Lewis Carrol scares me, and always will. I've read Alice in Wonderland once, and that was because my aunt bought me an awesome pop up book version of it. And it STILL scared the hell out of me.
Hamlet is, of course, awesome. I've always liked Horatio, and the subplots, always the subplots.
I won't read It, because I don't do scary. ...except out of morbid fascination, so all things considered I might read it.
The Giver rocks, as does Faust. Mmm, Faust. I honestly read it because Wishbone did that version of Dr. Faustus.

That's how I am with The Odyssey. I had to read it 3 times before I was out of high school and 4 time so far in my college career :P
